Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg gave his followers something to “like” on Friday when he announced that he and wife Priscilla are expecting their first child together – a baby girl!
The couple shared their excitement for the latest chapter in their lives, writing: “We’ve already been so fortunate for the opportunity to touch people’s lives around the world…Now we’ll focus on making the world a better place for our child and the next generation.”
Zuckerberg used the announcement as an opportunity to discuss the struggles they had faced on the road to parenthood, including three pregnancies that resulted in miscarriages. The couple were inspired to share their personal losses, stating: “Most people don’t discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you – as if you’re defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own. In today’s open and connected world, discussing these issues doesn’t distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope.”
The couple married in 2012 after more than a decade of dating; they met while students at Harvard.
