Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are one of the more private couples in Hollywood, but The Good Guys star was happy to share a few details about his daughters during a recent visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The actor revealed that his eldest daughter, nineteen-month-old Esmeralda, was a fan of going to parks and they play with sidewalk chalk.  He confessed to Ellen that at one time, when he was younger, he had dreams of becoming a graffiti artist, but had never been good enough to be engaged in a tagging war.  Then he shared, “We go to the park and we always write her name in chalk.  And some kid has been erasing her name and writing their name over it. So now – finally! – I’m in a proper tagging battle.”

The Notebook star continued, “And this kid has access to an unfair amount of chalk.  So I’m trying to explain to my little girl that, but you know, she doesn’t care. She’s just, like, ‘Let’s chalk somewhere else.’ But I say, ‘No. They are disrespecting your mother! She gave you this name and they are erasing it! So the only way to really get back at them is to erase their name…and to not, uh, disrespect their mother, but definitely put her on notice.'”

Turning to Ellen he said, “You’ve got to teach your kid what a reasonable amount of vengeance is.”  “Where will you stop?” Ellen asked.  “I think I’m doing alright…Do you think I’m going down the wrong road here?” Gosling asked.  “I think so.” the host replied. “I think she might not want to battle little kids.”  Gosling considered her answer and said, “I think it’s important.” to the laughter of Ellen and the audience.
