Princess Eugenie took to Instagram early this morning to announce the name of her first child, a son, with her husband Jack Brooksbank!

Eugenie, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, share three photos of her family and her son’s name: August Philip Hawke Brooksbank. Such a strong name!

In her Instagram Stories, Eugenie disclosed more information on how she chose her son’s names: “On his grandfather’s birthday weekend, thinking of my grandfather, we are introducing our little boy. He is named after his great grandfather and both of his great x5 grandfathers.” Eugenie is, of course, referring to her grandfather Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The name August comes from Queen Victoria’s consort Prince Albert, who had Augustus as a middle name. Hawke is likely a family name of Jack’s, though no details have been confirmed on this yet.

The name August is an English name that means “Great” or “To Increase,” while the name Philip is a Greek name that means “Lover of Horses.”

In her announcement post, Eugenie had a message for her fans. “Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”

Eugenie and Jack met in 2010 in Verbier, Switzerland at a ski resort area in the Swiss Alps. Jack was a friend of her cousin, Prince Harry. There was an immediate connection between Eugenie and Jack. After dating for a year, they made their first official appearance as a royal couple at the Royal Ascot in 2011. Jack popped the question in January 2018 while the couple was on vacation in Nicaragua. They tied the knot in October 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, the same venue Prince Harry and Meagan Markle tied the knot in May of that same year.

Congratulations to Eugenie and Jack on welcoming August into the world! We wish them lots of love as they settle into their new life together.
