Chrissy Teigen has been very open about her struggles to conceive with her husband John Legend. Now that the couple are expecting their first child together, the model and cookbook author, is revealing that she intentionally chose a female embryo for their pregnancy.
The Lip Sync Battle co-host shared the news with People while promoting her new books, Cravings. She said, “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo…I think I was most excited and allured by the fact that John would be the best father to a little girl…And this girl is going to be so completely lucky to have John as her papa—it’s crazy!”
Selecting a gender from an embryo for implementation, also known as preconception sex selection, has raised questions in the scientific community about ethical standards. The practice is currently banned in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and China. No such restrictions are in place for the United States.
