Last night’s Tony Awards was filled with excitement and joy for actor and thespian Santino Fontana. Not only did Fontana walk away with his very first Tony, awarded for best actor in a musical for his leading role in the stage adaptation of Tootsie, but he was gushing all evening about a new adventure he’ll be taking this year: the role of fatherhood.

Joining Fontana on the Red Carpet last night was his wife, fellow actress and Broadway star Jessica Hershberg, who was sporting an adorable baby bump. As the couple was photographed, Fontana couldn’t help but cradle her stomach and the sweet baby inside. During his acceptance speech, Fontana announced the couple’s first baby would be a girl!

“Jess,” Fontana gushed in his acceptance speech, “none of this would be possible nor would it be worth it without you or our baby girl who will be coming, and I can’t wait for her to come.”

Fontana and Hershberg met in New York in 2011 backstage at the Birdland jazz club, where each of them were performing. Both had moved to NYC to work as actors just after finishing college. This power couple have both had quite a few roles on Broadway, even appearing together in the 2013 revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.

The couple was wed in 2015 in what can only be described as a fairytale wedding. Hershberg, who had played numerous roles on stage as a bride, was finally able to be a real-life bride. They each radiated happiness on this joyous occasion.

As far as baby names for the couples’ new bundle of joy, Hershberg joked that they might be naming their baby Tony. While that would be adorably fitting, we’re not so sure if that will actually be her name. Only time will tell! The couple is expecting the arrival of their little girl this coming September.
