Sandra Bullock made headlines earlier this month when she announced the adoption of her second child, a 3 1/2 year old girl named Laila. While the star is notoriously private and protective when it comes to her children, we have learned that the little girls’ name, Laila, is a nod to the actress’s late mother, Helga, who passed away in 2000.
A source revealed to In Touch Magazine “Laila is a Scandinavian variation of the name Helga — Sandra’s late mother’s name.” They added that Laila has an outgoing and bubbly personality; a natural performer just like her namesake who was an opera singer.
The Heat star had earlier recounted to People Magazine that she had hesitated to adopt a daughter because of something her mother would say. “My mother always said, ‘You just wait till you have a daughter.’…And the thought that a daughter of mine would be anything like I was scared me senseless.” She continued, “If Laila gave me what I gave, I’ll know it was all Helga B.’s doing and she is laughing her ass off. I am fully prepared for that ride.”
Laila joins Sandra’s son Louis, 5, who was adopted by the Gravity actress in 2010.
