I can never bring myself to combine Olivia and Alivia since I pronounce Olivia with a definite "Oh"; but if you do that, Olivia becomes 18,297 and rises one place in the rankings.

Neat, thanks. I am not at all surprised about Madeline (this is mad-uh-linn?). Seems like they're everywhere but with a few different spellings. There are two Madelyns in my son's first grade class (of 20 kids... they would've been born sometime in 2000, 2001, or 2002). But they are spelled differently, I just can't remember how.
Most awesome, thanks! And I agree about Olivia and Alivia!
My daughter is Kaia and I was trying to figure out the ranking with all the spellings . . . Kaya, Caia, Kaja and whatever else I could think of. Do I just add the total numbers, or do you think Kaia and Kaya might be said differently? (We say Kaia to rhyme with hi ya!)

I think ANY of these spellings could be pronounced either with Kay or Kye as the first syllable, so I count them all together.
I think all the girls I've run across who are either Kaia or Kaya have used the "hi ya" pronunciation, but it wouldn't shock me to run across one who used "hey ya".

I can't believe Camilla is in the top 50 if you combine the spellings!
Actually, I did NOT combine Camilla and Camila. I assumed that Camila was a Hispanic name pronounced "cah-MEEL-uh", and that Camilla was pronounced with "mill" as the middle syllable as in Prince Charles' wife.
If you do combine the Camillas with the Camilas, the total rises to 4,825.
The popularity of Camila with Hispanic Americans is probably more associated with various Latin American singers and actresses such as Camila Bordonaba and Camila Sodi, and models like Camila Alves, than it is with Prince Charles' wife.

Thanks for posting this. Very interesting to see how this exercise changes the rankings in the official lists, in some cases substantially.
I was also intrigued to notice that on the combined-spelling lists, Jordan and Jayden make the top 50 for both genders. I guess that qualifies them as truly unisex names.

Neat! Thanks! I'm surprised that Isabelle is soooo far below Isabella!

"Cats don't have names," it said.
"No?" said Coraline.
"No," said the cat. "Now, you people have names. That's because you don't know who you are. We know who we are, so we don't need names."
Most awesome, thanks! And I agree about Olivia and Alivia!

Hey Cindy. I have a cousin Kaya. Her name is pronounced 'K-uh'. Just throwing it out there.
