Hello All,

Check this out for a bit of fun: http://www.nsw.gov.au/explorer.asp

It's a dynamic graph of baby names in New South Wales, Australia. Just type in a name to see it graphed out over the last 100 years.

I wrote to the developers and asked whether they'd considered making the left axis a percentage (total births/babies with that name) and got a response indicating there's more to come. If I hear anything else about it I'll let you all know. Have fun!

"I am glad you are enjoying the Baby Name Explorer. We had actually planned many other features however they were not ready to go live at the time of launch. We are looking at adding more features in the future - including relative/percentage popularity.#

You may be interested to know of some of the hidden features that *are* available. These are explained on our technical blog here http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/dmsblog/index.php/2008/08/21/some-nsw-baby-name-explorer-easter-eggs/

The blog entry explains how you can compare two completely different names etc.

Thank you again for writing to us about the Baby Name Explorer - your feedback is very much appreciated."

Hey, that's so cool that they replied to you [and very name-nerd of you to email them about possible improvements, lol].

I played with it the other day, very fun. thanks for the link. And nice to see you back :)

Thanks for the link! That's fun to play with. I like the way you can type in a few letters and have some interesting names pop up. For instance, I came upon the boys name Charbel, which is a new one to me.
