Ok, so this isn't really a name question so much as a word question, but... what came first, the fruit called an orange, or the color?

The fruit was first -- the color is named for the fruit [like the other fruit-colors: plum, peach, etc.].

The Middle English word orange came from the Anglo-French orrange/araunge --> Old Occitan auranja --> Arabic nāranj --> Persian nārang --> Sanskrit nāraṅgaḥ.
