Some Dutch lovelies, which I am very unfamiliar with. Pronunciations would be nice as well, if anyone knows. These are circa 1500-1600.

Aethgen (f)- I'm guessing a pet form of Alice/Adelaide or some other Adal- name? Any idea? I am basing this simply b/c Belijtgen is a pet form of Isabel/Isabella, and the Aeth- brings to mind Alice/Adelaide.

Theunis/Theunnis (m)- I guess a form of Dennis?

Aeltje (f)- I'm thinking this might be a pet form of Alice as well.

Leenderdt (m)- a form of Leonard?

Leuntje (f)- a femme of Leonard?

Marretje (f)- a form of Martina or Mary?

Thanks so much!

Neat! How do you find these?

Theunis is pet form of Antonius, pronounced TOO-nis -- the 'oo' doesn't have an English equivalent, the closest imo is like the 'u' in 'curt'. I've loved Teun [another form] for years. :thup:

Leenderdt is a form of Leonard. :yes:

Pure guesses would be that Leuntje is a form of Magdalene and Marretje is a form of Margaret or Mary.

As far as pronunciations for the others, my best approximations:
Aethgen = AT-gen [gutteral 'g', like 'ch' in loch or Chanukah]
Aeltje = AL-chuh
Leenderdt = LAYN-dehrt
Leuntje = LOON-chuh [same 'oo' as Theunis]
Marretje = MAR-eh-chuh
