from the Baby Blog:

"Joseph Simmons--aka Reverend Run from Run D.M.C.--and his wife Justine adopted a baby girl named Miley (http://www.babynames.com/boards/../name/MILEY) Justice (http://www.babynames.com/boards/../name/JUSTICE) in September."

I think Miley is going to jump up the girls' charts -- especially if M. Cyrus stays "clean and sober" and a good role model :)

Let's hope so!

I like it. I know it was a name before Miley Cyrus, but where exactly did it come from? I remember seeing an episode of Supernanny where they had twins named Maile and Malia, who were old enough to have been born before Miley's debut, but I hadn't heard of it before that.

Is Maile the original spelling? I like the idea of the ai, but I can't get used to the way it looks.

Maile is the Hawaiian name of a vine which I believe is used in making leis. I knew a girl named Maile, pronounced like Miley, who was a year older than me, so she's about 40 now. I've seen Maile off and on in birth announcement, but definitely much more in the past year, spelled Maile, Miley, Mylee, Mylie. I agree that it's likely to become much more popular b/c of Miley Cyrus and also because it just hits the right sound for the moment. It sounds so much like Riley and Kylie but is a little "different." Also, Miles has become a bit more common for boys in the U.S. lately and I'll bet that it's going to continue to go up, too.

BTW, Malia is also a Hawaiian name (from Maria), so the twins named Maile and Malia both had Hawaiian names. I knew a girl my age named Malia, too.

Oh, thanks. I figured Maile was the original spelling, but I didn't know where it was from. Interesting that both names are Hawaiian.

I went to school with a girl named Mylee she's now 18. I have to say it is a very pretty name.

I remember liking the name a long time ago when I was still in high school, but I wanted to spell it Myleigh! I agree that it will become more popular with the success of Miley Cyrus.

I think its a cute & girly name! I bet it catches on!

Its actually Miley Cyrus' nickname, her real name is Destiny Hope Cyrus. She's known as "Miley" because her father used to call her "Smiley" & it transformed into "Miley".

I actually love Miley Cyrus, and I can totally see where the name is going to shoot up in popularity because of her. And it fits with the trendy naming style of the Riley/Kylie genre. Honestly, I even suggested the name to Jonathan! (It got shot down immediately, but still. :haha: )

 I don't see anything wrong with those pics -- totally looks like something I would have done with my friends at that age.

Ditto.

I went and looked up perez right after that post and didn't find anything wrong with those pictures at all. Looks like girls goofing around to me. Am I missing something?

Isn't Wayne Brady's little girl named Maile? I think that's the first time I'd heard of it and I love it spelled that way. I do believe it will become popular and ditto that the pics don't show anything other than girls being teenagers.
