I ran across this model, whose name is Beau. What do you think of that name for a girl? Beau Garrett grew up in Topanga, which is a real "hippie" community here in LA. She has an older sister named Autumn.

If I wasn't studying French, it might be alright to me. But, knowing that 'beau' is the masculine word for beautiful/good-looking and that for a female it has to be 'belle', it makes it hard for me to see it as a girl's name.

I think I have seen it before as a nn for Rainbeau yeah I now even stranger. I also believe there is a chinese name Bo that is used for both sexes. So it is doable. I prefer the Bo spelling simply because even with my limited French I think of beau as masculine.

She definitely doesn't hurt the image though she is beautiful!

Since I speak French, I very much dislike Beau for a girl. I even dislike Isabeau, which seems incredibly masculine to me.

Bo, on the other hand, is unisex, and is therefore okay to me -- though the meanings aren't as nice.

That model reminds me of Natalie Portman.

I can't think of beau for a girl because the word literally means a boyfriend.

I think you'd have to be very beautiful to pull it off.

Ditto that Beau is French for handsome. I think Belle would have been just fine.

Yeah, don't even have to know French to associate that with maleness. lol

I like Isabeau - Beau's a little simple sounding for my taste, but it's not bad. I think it's a problematic name in theory but less so in practice - yeah it's a masculine French term, but it's not like it means, "macho" or anything - but I'll bet a model from an off beat community can pull it off.

I know someone named Bo growing up - short for Bonita. I think I'd take just Beau over that.

I like Bo, but not Beau.
