Just got off the phone with a reporter in Boston who is writing an article about the upsurge in the use of Boston as a boys' name in the USA and is attributing that to the Red Sox having won the World Series back in 2004. She's evidently found six or seven couples who claim that was one reason they chose Boston as a name for their son. Of course, none of them live in Massachusetts! ---which makes sense, since people who live in or near a city are generally the least likely to give their kids that name.
It will be interesting to see what the final article looks like. I told her part of the success of Boston as a name is that it fits in with the "two syllables ending in -n" pattern that is so common for "newly popular" boys' names these days. Trenton and Camden are still way more common than Boston, though Boston is on the rise.
Any way, do any of you know of kids named Boston and whether or not the parents are Red Sox fans? :)

I don't know ANY, but as a Yankees fan from NJ, there is NO WAY I would ever name my kid that!
I think it definitely fits then "-on" pattern, but I wonder if the Cubs win, would there be an upsurge in kids named Chicago? Or Wrigley?
My friend has a dog named Boston, because she is a Red Sox fan.
I think there was also a contestant on some reality show named Boston a few years ago, though? I remember hearing that even though I didn't watch the show.

I know of a little girl named Boston. I don't know if her parents are Sox fans or not. The name is nmsaa.
ETA: OK, I did a little googling, and found the guy - "Boston Rob" - who apparently has been on 4 reality shows and married a girl he was on the shows with.

Yeah, he doesn't go by Boston Rob. I think that was just the way to distinguish him from someone else. (I have only heard of him when he was on The Amazing Race and he was NEVER called that.)

I know of someone who named their son Hayden Boston after the Bosox. They don't live in MA, though they are from there.

Yeah, he was from Boston and has a very noticable Boston accent and their were two Rob's on his team so they called him Boston Rob. He was first on Survivor, then he did Survivor All-Stars and came in second to the woman he proposed to during the finale. They went on to do the Amazing Race together, and now they are doing some reality show about them together and married or something like that. I don't think he has anything to do with the name soaring though. Also another contestant on Survivor has a son named Boston. I don't know if he was a BoSox fan or not.

Hehehehehe... being from New England (and a Die Hard Boston sports fan) I find this somewhat funny. I can tell you that no one in this area would ever name their child that. Being the ultra-superstitous bunch that we are around here, plus the fact that any kid who actually went to city with that name would get a raised eyebrow for sure, I just don't think its a good place name.
Upon further research, I was interested to find out thought, that Boston actually made it on the top 100 names in the state of Utah in 2006. Who knew!

I know a Harrison Fenway LN after the Sox (Boooo!), but I don't know anyone named Boston.
And little Harrison lives in NY. He's about 3 or 4 now I guess.

Now that surprises me  And my high school boyfriend's family had a Dauschhaund named Boston--I don't know where they got the name from, they were from San Diego and not big sports people that I know of....

Well, considering the Sox just won the Series again, I think we'll be seeing another surge in usage. :)
