Ok guys, we've been noticing an upturn in some rule-breaking posts on this board, so please take the time to review the information below:
Regarding Name Harshing
Just because we're talking about celebrities and the names they choose for their babies doesn't mean we're exempt from the same rules about harshing names as you find on Need Name Advice. It's a celebrity's kid's name, sure, but it also very well could be a BNer's loved one's name. So let's tone down the barf smilies and strong language.
Some reminders on decorum from Sue's thread on the NNA board (there's a RULES sticky there too, if you want more explicit info):
* You can't expect to like every name. But there are appropriate ways of expressing your dislike. Emotively negative words such as "yuck," "ew" or barfing smilies are not constructive and can be hurtful. If you really hate a name and can't think of a polite reply, then don't bother to reply to that thread.
* The name boards are the only boards non-members can see. BabyNames is a wonderful, friendly community; let's not put lurkers off about being rude about names they love, or may have used.
On Kindness and Community
We've noticed 2 things in the past several months:
1) If someone posts a repeat thread, let it go. Post a link to the original thread, if it's really important to you. There is no need to make someone feel bad or guilty over a simple mistake. They might be providing a new link or new info, so reply with respect and kindness.
2) When posting a story about celebrities, remember that there may be other members of BabyNames (or lurkers reading these threads) who share the same religious beliefs, ideals, etc. as those celebrities. Calling anyone (even a celebrity) names based on these things, rather than expressing outrage at actions, is not ok. Please do not editorialize in a way that might offend someone who reads that thread. Think twice about whether you would say such a thing in a crowded room full of strangers whose range of beliefs you cannot possibly know.
The Crackdown
This is the official first warning. If you continue to break these rules, you will be timed out. Review the board rules and the NNA rules if you're in any way unclear. Also PM me ANY TIME. Y'all know I'm around frequently, and I do read this board regularly.
