How do you picture a little Maeve? I have had 3 people today tell me that it is too old ladyish and I don't feel that way at all.

Well, I've never met a Maeve & I do picture an old lady. However, I feel that way about many of the names that are coming back in style (that I love). Like Vera, Everett, Henry, Charlotte, Sylvia. They aren't names we've heard on kids because they haven't been used in decades for the most part. Yet once you meet a kid with it, your view changes & you love it. (if that makes ANY sense!) lol

I consider 'old lady' to be a bit of a compliment. ;)

I don't think Maeve is too old lady. I think its pretty spunky, actually.

I think of Lexi's little pixie! A sunshiney always happy cute as a button kid of kiddo!

I picture Brookies- Ella Maeve, probably b/c she is the only child I know with the name at all. So adorable as Grace and Ella always are!

I think a lot of really hot names are old ladyish so I don't think you should let that freak you out too much. Stella, Ava, Emma, Audrey, Ruby, the list goes on and on, Maeve is just a name that hasn't been used as much yet to get the general population to see it as hip. I would look for a name like this if I wanted this style of name, one that is ahead of the curve so to speak.

I picture Lexi's little Maeve as well, but even before then I would picture a cute little blonde (maybe some reddish hair since it's Irish) girl, cute as can be! I can see how people who aren't as connected to names and naming might associate it with an old woman, but they don't know (like we do) how to appreciate a name and give it a chance. I'm also thinking that "old lady" names will become a bit more normal soon. I'm not saying Maeve will become popular or anything, but that names like Ruby, Pearl, Florence, etc. might become more welcome in the naming world.

ETA: Right, so what I'm really meaning to say is: Don't listen to them! I love the name Maeve and I think it will fit your new little girl amazingly!

I don't see Maeve as old ladyish at all. I find it sweet and spunky like Corinne. They'll love it once you have your little Maeve.

For actually picturing one, I see bright blue eyes and little dimples on a teeny little girl with a wavy dark bob. She also has the biggest personality and smile.

If it sounds old lady, then it must age well.

I picture an older irish woman, grandmotherly.
I dont think thats a bad thing, people always said that about my name "grandmotherly"

I also think of Brookie's girls.

I can see her looking like Corinne in her Halloween Costume. I seriously think this baby will look like Corinne & Weston. So, light hair and totally adorable. ;)

I can see Maeve with dark hair too... I think this name will look good on lots of different features.

It is an oldish name, but older names are coming back and this one is divine. :)

Actually a little girl that looks a lot like Cori! Blonde hair, a round face, spunky. Of course, Christine's Maeve may have skewed my answer, but she's just so cute!

I have only met one Maeve, a couple years younger than me when I was in college. She was one of those standout, beautiful girls--bright blue eyes, blonde hair. So I kind of relate it to a pretty girl who stands out, but not in a flashy way, in a classy way.

LOVE the name.

Awwww, thank you

I picture my Ella Maeve....we call her Ella Maeve as well.....not all the time....but often enough.

My mental image is my girl....huge brown eyes, blonde hair, raspy voice....super sassy.

I think of the adorable Maeve Erin Grace as well....her smile, those cheeks and that sassy bob hair style.

My Ella Maeve...

Definitely like the two Maeve's pictured above! And I think they both fit in with what your little girl could possibly look like.... blonde, adorable, and with kissable cheeks :winky:

I've always pictured a Maeve as blonde hair, big blue eyes and super spunky w/ a tad of girlyness to her. I think you'd have the perfect little Maeve!! I dont think it is an old ladies name but then again I think most people outside of BN have NO clue when it comes to names! I wouldnt take what anyone says to heart. Name your baby what you want and not worry one bit what anyone else thinks!!

I don't really have a specific image, but I can easily picture it on a child.

I think it is a name that most people would consider an "old-fashioned" name with a bit of a negative connotation. (Most people being people who don't spend a lot of time thinking/talking about names like we all do!)

I think it is one of those names that is absolutely adorable on little girls and ages well. I have a couple of those on my list, Maeve being one of them, along with Ruth and some others.
