My husband is called Jon.

And we like the name Jack for a boy.

Obv Jack is traditionally a nn for John...is it a bit much to have a Jack and a Jon in one house, especially as we would use the combo Jack Anderton and Anderton is Jon's middle name and a family name. So effectively two boys with nearly the same name?

WDYT?

Nope :) Actually I think it's a good idea - it's a connection to his dad's name, without it being the same. That way, he still has his own name/identity, but he also gets the family feeling - kwim?

But I'd use a different middle name.

I think you're overthinking it ;)

As your Jon isn't called Jack, I don't see it as a problem. If anything, isn't it a good thing - Jack would kind of be named after Jon.

Jack Anderton is a cool combo!

Yes ditto Emma.
I think over time Jack has come to be an stand alone name, so it works fine.

I think it's a nice subtle way of honoring your Jon. Jack is definitely it's own name now, so I wouldn't worry about it. I love the combo, too!

We have a Jack and John. Our Jack is Jackson because it means son of John. I don't see it as too much, I see it as naming him after his dad, a little more creatively than John Jr.

I think it's great!

No, it's obviously after him and if it wasn't then you probably wouldn't use it right? So, that's kinda the whole point, to me. I love Jack as a son to Jo(h)n.

I love the name Jack, so I say go for it! I don't think it's as commonly used as a nn for John anymore, it's kinda become it's own name too. So I say it's fine!

If you were thinking of naming two boys, one Jon and one Jack, then I'd say yes, that's a bit much. But having dad Jon and son Jack, not at all. It's a nice way to name him after his dad, without actually using the same name.

Ditto this--Jack is definitely its own name now, so I don't think its like using the same name

I think Jack Anderton sounds very cool!

I know a John that goes by Jack 99% of the time, and he and his wife named their son Jackson. So it's totally do-able. And I don't know if people associate John and Jack as one name so much these days...I personally see them as two separate names, but that's just my opinion!

I think it would be fine to use!

I think it's fine to use, but I might question it myself...

We had Jonas on our list for a boy, and it put me off that it was so close to Jonathan. I think I'd still have considered using it though, if it weren't for the Jonas Brothers association -- it was Jon's favourite of our boy picks.
