Joseph etymology

Does anyone know exactly what words Joseph derives from? I know it should mean "Jehovah increases." What is the Hebrew word for increase/add?

le'esof (leh-eh-sofe) is the Hebrew word for increase

so Yosef literally means He increases--"big H" He translated in this situation as God

Ok, how does "He" get in there? I was assuming it was Jahweh + whatever-word-for-increase-was? So it's the le'esof plus a word for He, or is it conjugated someway to be "he increases" kind of like Shiri means my song and Shir means song. Does that make sense?

Hebrew is so cool. I wish I could learn it.

oops I made a mistake l'hoseef means to addon/incease (l'esof means to gather--sorry!)

in Hebrew there is future tense and each gender has a prefix attached to a root word to signify the future tense (in this case the root word is asaf)

so:
she will add = Toseef
we will add = noseef
he will add = Yosef

ditto Ellie! literally he will increase, or he will add. future tense, small "h" in he. Often interpreted as "God," but literally, just "he."
