Model and media personality Sofia Richie is pregnant! In an interview with Vogue, Sofia revealed she and her new husband Elliot Grainge are expecting their first baby together. The daughter of singer Lionel Richie also revealed the sex of her baby.
In addition to announcing her pregnancy, Sofia revealed that she and Elliot will be welcoming a baby girl! Of learning their baby’s sex, Sofia shared, “I love the YouTubes and the TikToks—even before I was talking about getting pregnant—of gender reveals, so we had our OB text my assistant Becca [our baby’s gender], and we bought two party poppers: one blue, one pink. She left out the one with the correct color inside, and Elliot and I popped it together. We both really thought it was a boy, so it was a true shock. My dream in life is to have a daughter, and Elliot is really excited for a girl too.” She went on to explain, “I think it’s so typical for boys to want boys, but he has a lot of sisters. It was really sweet. He’s very sensitive.” As for her daughter’s due date, Sofia revealed, “She’s growing pretty fast, so [the due date] is a bit up in the air.”
Sofia discovered she was expecting early on in her pregnancy, explaining to the outlet, “I found out very, very early. I was about four weeks pregnant. I was on a trip to Milan for fashion week, and I was going to the Prada show. I was doing a really quick 24-hour turnaround, and I felt terrible but didn’t think much of it. I thought it was jet lag.”
When she arrived back home to Los Angeles, she had been planning to attend a concert. “I kind of knew it was going to be a boozy night, and I was a few days late on my period, and I wanted to be generally safe, so I took a test. Elliot was already used to me taking tests randomly,” she explained, as the two had been casually trying to conceive. “So he didn’t really flinch when I said I was checking. I was taking one of those really crappy at-home tests, and there was the faintest of lines. I was so used to seeing negatives that I knew when something looked even kind of different.”
She ended up calling Elliot to have him pick up more tests. “He was so excited,” she recalled. “We spoke the whole way on the phone. And when he came home, he’s such a sweet guy he always wants to protect my emotions and expectations, so he kind of sat me down and said, ‘If these are negative, don’t be upset. Our moment will come.’ When we turned over all three tests at the same time they were all positive. He was so excited, and we both cried. It was crazy and overwhelming and so hard not to scream it from the rooftops.”
Sofia and the music executive tied the knot less than one year ago in April 2023 at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France. The couple was platonic when they first met but eventually took the next step in their relationship, a move Sofia felt was right. “When we started being romantic, he just gave me a different feeling,” she has since recalled. “It was a feeling of safety It was the feeling of really being appreciated. I knew when we started dating that he was my husband. It wasn’t a ‘Do you think one day he’ll propose?’ It was like, ‘This is my husband — 100 percent.’ I felt this love for him that I never felt ever in my life.”
