The Material Girl is a mom again! Madonna just announced the she won her battle to adopt Mercy, a three year-old girl from Malawi.
“I am ecstatic … My family and I look forward to sharing our lives with her,” she said earlier today. Mercy should be on her way “home” to New York City within the next week, where she will be joined by siblings David (also from Malawi), Rocco and Lourdes.
Madonna‘s bid to adopt a three year-old Malawian girl has hit a stumbling block. The singer traveled to the country this weekend in hopes of adopting a girl named Mercy from a local orphanage, but a judge denied the request. Madonna has filed an appeal, but had to leave the country empty-handed. A staffer at the orphanage said that Madonna looked “sad,” but the singer’s 12 year-old daughter Lourdes looked “devastated” when leaving the little girl. The pair returned home to London where they will celebrate Passover with Madonna’s son, Rocco, and ex-hubby Guy Ritchie.
The Material Girl is getting maternal again. Apparently, Madonna is planning on adopting another child from Malawi. A representative from the country’s Ministry of Women and Child Welfare told PEOPLE that the singer is headed there this weekend and has filed papers to adopt a baby girl. Madonna’s son David is also from Malawi. She has two other children, daughter Lourdes and son Rocco, from previous relationships.
