Madonna‘s bid to adopt a three year-old Malawian girl has hit a stumbling block. The singer traveled to the country this weekend in hopes of adopting a girl named Mercy from a local orphanage, but a judge denied the request. Madonna has filed an appeal, but had to leave the country empty-handed. A staffer at the orphanage said that Madonna looked “sad,” but the singer’s 12 year-old daughter Lourdes looked “devastated” when leaving the little girl. The pair returned home to London where they will celebrate Passover with Madonna’s son, Rocco, and ex-hubby Guy Ritchie.
