United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg has announced that he and his husband Chasten have welcomed a child! Pete shared the news to his personal Twitter page today and reshared the tweet on his personal Instagram account.

Pete revealed that growing his family with Chasten was something they have wanted “for some time” and that they are “overjoyed to share that we’ve become parents!” The former Presidential candidate did not share many details about he and his husband’s journey into parenthood, he did reveal, “The process isn’t done yet and we’re thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us. We can’t wait to share more soon.”

While the couple did not reveal how they welcomed their child, Chasten shared with the Washington Post last month that they had been trying to adopt for a year without success.

Pete and Chasten met in 2015 on a dating app. In 2018, they tied the knot at an Episcopal church in South Bend. Their ceremony included a reading from the 2015 Supreme Court case that made same-sex marriage legal across the US. In February of this year, Pete made history when he became the first openly gay, Senate-confirmed Cabinet member. Chasten stood by his side as he was sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris.

Congratulations to Pete and Chasten on growing their family! We wish them lots of love as they embrace their role as fathers.
