English actor Eddie Redmayne and his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, have welcomed their first child, a daughter named Iris Mary.

According to babynames.com, the name Iris is of Greek origin and means colorful or rainbow.  The name Mary is of Hebrew origin and means, “of the sea” or “bitter.”

At January’s Golden Globe awards, the actor spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the couple’s preparations for parenthood.  He said, “We have this sort of dream of like wooden toys, and all that, and everyone’s like, ‘Yeah you always start off like that, but you end up with like iPhones.”

Redmayne and Bagshawe married in 2014; Iris is the first child for both.
